ModKnobs are a fine choice for exterior doors, so long as you pair them with deadbolts. We recommend installing a passage (non-locking) doorknob set, along with a coordinating deadbolt (available on our site). Deadbolt locks offer greater security than standard keyed knobs, but we suggest choosing an even higher-security solution for front entrances.

We don’t recommend ModKnobs for doors that endure extreme weather conditions.

To help ensure you get the exact color you’re hoping for, we created our Puck and Puck Pivots using the Pantone Matching System. You’ll find each color’s corresponding PMS number below. (You can also order samples, which is the absolute best way to get the perfect match.)

A privacy set (pictured below) has a small, push-button locking pin located on the rosette of the interior side of the door. It is typically used for a bedroom or bathroom, as it locks only from the inside. (An emergency release key is included, in case someone needs to gain access to the room.)

A passage set is a great choice for all doors that don’t need to lock, such as closet and hallway doors.

Dummy knobs are stationary decorative pulls. There are two types: Full Dummy sets (two knobs) and Half Dummy sets (one knob).

Full Dummy sets appear on both sides of one door, and are ideal for double doors, closets, pantries, and utility spaces.

Half Dummy sets appear on just one side of a door, and are ideal for cabinets, linen closets, and the inactive side of French doors.

Dummy knobs mount easily to the face of a door with three small screws. Note: ModKnobs are 2 3/4″ – 3″ in diameter.

Because Dummy knobs do not turn or latch, you may want to use a ball catch or magnetic catch to keep your door closed when not in use.

The backset of a door is the distance (in inches) from the edge of the door to the center of the bore hole. ModKnobs are designed for doors with a backset of 2 3/8”.

Note: We can sometimes accommodate requests for hardware fitting doors with a 2 3/4″ backset. Please contact us to see what’s available.

Not typically. But we aim to please, so let us know if you’d like to place a special order. We have a retail customer in Tokyo who recently ordered a custom set of ModKnobs with black hardware. They turned out great!

Yes! You can find ModKnobs in homes, office buildings and stores on 5 continents and counting.

Please contact us if you have questions about international orders. And please see our FAQ about international tariffs and duty fees.

It’s possible. Some countries require that a Tariff or Duty fee be collected for international purchases at the time of pickup or delivery.

Every nation has its own policies, so we cannot predict or collect these fees. We encourage you to contact your government for full details, and take this information into consideration before placing your order.

ModKnobs are custom built to order, using spendy but superb Baldwin hardware. Several of our designs require waterjet and laser cutting, and every piece is finished by hand.

All of our design, engineering and fabrication work is done in the United States. We can’t compete on price with doorknobs mass-produced in factories. But we do offer a great alternative for people seeking innovative, contemporary, beautifully built doorknobs.

Absolutely. If you’re ordering four or more sets of ModKnobs door knobs, we’ll thank you with a 5% volume discount, applied automatically in your shopping cart.
Puck ModKnobs clean up easily with a gentle cleanser like Soft Scrub or Bon Ami.

Matte ModKnobs look great with a little soap and water, followed by Butcher Block Oil.

Oak and Walnut ModKnobs can be cleaned with gentle soap and water. Teak Oil protects, and enhances the sheen of Walnut ModKnobs.

If you’re not 100% satisfied with your order, you can return or exchange your ModKnobs for a full refund, minus a 20% restocking fee and shipping costs.

You have 15 calendar days from when you receive your order to notify us that you’d like to make a return or exchange.

Please contact us for an RGA (returned goods authorization) number and pack your returns carefully. If they are damaged in transit, we will not be able to issue full credit for the return.

We must receive your return in its original packaging, in new condition and suitable for resale. As soon as your product has been received and inspected, we will issue your refund (which may take 5-10 business days to be reflected in your account).

We require all returns and exchanges to be pre-authorized with an RGA (returned goods authorization) number. This number allows us to quickly update your account once we have received your return. We cannot accept returns without an RGA#.

Please use insured US Mail or UPS and keep your tracking numbers. Send your carefully packaged goods, with the RGA# clearly printed on the parcel, to this address: ModKnobs: 8804 9th Avenue NW, Seattle, WA 98117
